Kanban Ken: Takayama’s Cutest Chihuahua
Kanban Ken: Takayama’s Cutest Chihuahua
If you are ever in Takayama, a city located in the Japanese Alps, look for Kanban Ken. The chocolate chihuahua is the resident mascot for the takoyaki shop on Honmachi Street.
Blink and you could miss him!
Kanban Ken is one of those Japanese curiosities that if you are not looking, you may miss.
Tucked under his owner’s street sign on the main strip of Honmachi Street near where it crosses with Kajibashi, you will find him, and occasionally his little sidekick, in a snug little doggie bed outside the takoyaki shop in Takayama.
Small breeds of dogs are particularly popular in Japan due to the lack of space especially in cities making chihuahuas and dachshunds some of the country’s favourite pets to own.
He’s not there everyday, but if you are lucky you might spot him when the weather is good, so stop by and give him a pat.
Kanban means “sign” in English. We are sure this little chocolate chihuahua has all the signs of becoming a popular attraction.
